From Jute Bags to Global Impact: The Story Behind Our Spice RevolutionDear Friends, I want to share something personal with you today – the journey that brought Curries And Varuvals to life. Where It All BeganGrowing up in a family that traded pulses, legumes, and spices, I was immersed in this world from childhood. I still remember visiting warehouses with my grandfather and uncles, watching them work their magic in the bustling marketplace. The earthy aroma of coriander spilling from jute bags, the intense sample discussions around weathered wooden tables – these moments ignited a passion that would shape my entire life. A point of pride: I was born in Virudhunagar, and recently our beloved Virudhunagar Samba Vathal received its GI Tag recognition. That's the heritage I carry forward. The Modern ChapterLife took me on different paths – studies, brand building, corporate ventures – but the family business kept calling me back. I realized I wanted to contribute to something bigger than just commerce. I wanted to be part of the movement that companies like Burlap & Barrel and Diaspora Co. are leading. This isn't about competition – it's about collaboration. The more ethical players in this space, the better we can transform the industry through:
Our Australian ConnectionI must acknowledge my legendary sourcing partner in Australia, who believed in our vision from day one. From zero orders to sampling with dozens of potential customers, to now serving 100+ trusted customers in just six months – their support has been invaluable. No BS, Just ProofWe don't just claim to be "pure and natural." Here's how we prove it: ✓ Single-origin spices that are Non-GMO and non-irradiated Challenge us. We welcome it. Beyond Idli and DosaHere's what drives me most: educating people that spices deserve the same respect as premium coffee or blueberries. They're premium ingredients that become affordable when you follow ethical practices and efficient supply chains. More importantly, South Indian cuisine is so much more than the idli-dosa stereotype! At Curries And Varuvals, we're on a mission to revive the traditional dishes that are slowly disappearing from everyday kitchens. We're diving deep into authentic recipes, educating food lovers, and bringing back those cherished flavors of childhood. Because preserving culinary heritage isn't just about spices – it's about keeping stories, traditions, and memories alive. What's Next?Every jar of our spice blend carries this story – from the fields where our farmers grow with care, through ethical supply chains, to your kitchen where new memories are made. This is just the beginning of our journey together. With gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead, Sakthi P.S. Have a traditional South Indian recipe your grandmother used to make? Share it with us – we'd love to help bring those flavors back to life! |
